Weegee's photography focused on urban life, crime, injury, and death. Much of his work was the product of following the city's emergency services, making him one of the earliest - and most famous - forensic photographers. Most of Weegee's photos were taken on photo-Gelatin silver, between 1930 and 1959. Weegee can also be considered as one of the earliest pioneers of experimental photography as he commonly practiced photographic distortion in many of his works - one of the more notable being a portrait of Marilyn Monroe. Weegee has remained in popular discussion due to renaissance pieces which documented the stark reality of everyday life in urban settings as well as an introductory glance into the zany side of photography.
